The Dexcom G5 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System provides real-time glucose readings for patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes every five minutes.  With Dexcom G5 Mobile, dynamic glucose data can be accessed and shared safely and conveniently anywhere, anytime to your smart device.  The Dexcom G5 Mobile is the first CGM system approved for adults and pediatric patients two years of age and older.

The Dexcom monitoring system is made up of three separate components.  They are:

1. Dexcom G5 sensors – The CGM sensor is inserted into the skin for up to 7 days.
2. Dexcom G5 Transmitter – The G5 transmitter is equipped with bluetooth connectivity so that it is able to send blood sugar data every five minutes. It can pair with two devices to give you the option on how to choose to see your data.  The receiver, or through your smart phone.
3. Dexcom G5 Receiver – The G5 Receiver receives the information from the transmitter, displays and stores the information along with the use of the application. It is not recommended to rely totally on your smart phone  as your receiver.  There will be instances where your smart phone will not connect or you may be at a place, such as work, that does not allow for you to have access to your phone.
